Moritzburg

It simply wouldn't be Christmas in Germany (and apparenly Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland, Norway and Ukraine too) without 'Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel' being shown on TV, the two belong together like Christmas Markets and Glühwein.

'Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel' which transleted means 'Three hazelnuts for Cinderella' is sort of like the classic fairy tale only that Aschenbrödel has been given some extra Girl Power as she climbs trees, rides horses and hunts.

Filmed in 1973 as a Czechoslovak/East German collaboration, the castle they used was the rather splendid Moritzburg, about 20 minutes north of Dresden. When we visited this summer we were lucky enough to see this little Cinderalla (below) getting hitched to her very own prince. Awwwwwwww.
