Striezelkinder are not just for Christmas.
Striezel is the name of Germany's oldest Christmas Market in the south eastern city of Dresden. Striezelkinder (Kids from Striezel) were street vendors in the 1800's, selling Pflaumentoffeln, a figure made entirely from dried prunes, as well as toys and Christmas decorations,
This particular design won a gold medal at the 1937 World Expo in Paris and just like then is still entirely hand-painted.
