What’s it all about?

Right, that’s 100% Design (others might want to call it the London Design Festival) over and done with for another year and I can’t help myself but to think what the hell it was all about. Without doubt there has been a great deal of enthusiasm but possibly even more frustration and confusion about the direction design is moving towards. Sustainable was the most overused word of the week and don’t get me wrong, it’s important to look after our planet but I think we might be going about it the wrong way. We use the word almost as an excuse for excessive consumtion which is ok if it’s sustainable. But why produce sustainable disposable products when we should really produce products that are good and that will last.
Ok, I am getting far too serious now…. a definite sign that I am, for the time being, well and truly designed-out!!!
i agree completely! we saw a lot of logs around as everything bookshelves, like chairs etc….
i was a bit discourage and disappointed by the design week this time to be honest
it seems during the past years i have been here this year’s was the least great of all…i wonder if it has to do with the price of london….. designers tend to get out of here…..too dam expensive
anyway regards
True Dat TVE - sustainability seems just to be another buzz word that has had its meaning by-passed. Obviously within your comments you were excluding the ‘Ten Again’ stand at 100% which was the greenest and best - that would be www.tenexhibition.info for anyone from Nuie!
